Hi, my name is Annie and I’ve always wanted to be interviewed for a magazine in a question and answer style piece – so here is me interviewing myself.
How did I become a celebrant?
Since I was 20 years old I wanted to be a Marriage Celebrant. I thought people would laugh at me for being too young, so I went on to become a Social Worker. About 10 years later, I was asked to be the MC at my friends wedding, which made me realise that I needed to live out my dream of being a Marriage Celebrant, which I’m lucky enough to be doing now as a full-time career.
What do I love most about my job?
I love having a beverage with my couples and getting an insight into their lives, their relationship, their bad habits, their wishes for their big day, and having a laugh with my couples. I also really enjoying hanging out with the bridal party before the ceremony begins (I hear lots of naughty jokes and swear words). I love feeling and hearing the guests reactions when I speak about my couples during the ceremony – personalised ceremonies are my favourite!
Where do I marry couples?
From the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Toowoomba, to Gold Coast areas; but I’m also really happy to marry people all over Australia and beyond (I won’t say no to an Island wedding).
Describe my personality in three words…
Down to earth, self deprecating, bubbly
